In February 2012, KCUMB medical students and faculty worked with students and faculty from the University of Missouri-Kansas City to provide care to more than 2,800 patients in Guatemala, many of whom had not seen a physician in years. Patients were provided with a diagnosis and medications free of charge, and many received osteopathic manipulative treatments for the first time in their lives.
I am so happy that my Alma Mater has become involved with Mission Trips to Guatemala.
My brother, Robert C. Wirt, DO and I are graduates of KCCOM, now KCUMB. We went to Guatemala in the late 90's on a medical mission trip to Guatemala, arranged by Riverside Baptist Church in Gainesville, GA.
I have pictures of that trip; also, I was in Guatemala for three years in the early years of 2000. I went along on several mission trips, including three related to Hurricane Stan. I have many photos of Guatemala.
I will be sending the aforementioned photos along to you at some time in the (hopefully) not too distant future.
